Born as Gerhard Friedle in the Austrian Tyrol he called himself DJ Ötzi after Ötz the region of his birth. He is one of the most successful musicians to come out of modern Austria. His music is influences strongly by his origins. For example his hit album ‘Never Stop the Alpenpop" and single "Anton Aus Tirol". But he has also released songs of universal appeal like his biggest hit "Hey Baby".

DJ Ötzi has not had an easy life. He was raised by foster parents and his grandmother and has had to work his way up from living on the streets. He was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1998. He survived and fought on. Years of hard work later his songs his number one in the Swiss, Austrian, German and UK charts. Plenty of people do not rate his overtly pop tunes. Critics sneer at their disposability and cheerfulness. But DJ Ötzi has spent most of his adult life doing what he loves - playing and making music.

DJ Ötzi started at the bottom of the club scene - the countryside clubs of Austria are not the obvious place to start career. But with persistence and talent he has risen to be one Austria"s, and Europe"s most famous DJ"s. And there are thousand s of people dancing to his tunes or mixes that are glad that the young Gerhard Friedle became DJ Ötzi not a farmer or a cook.
